Down Home Electric L.L.C is a local, family owned Residential electrical service and repair contractor, with the knowledge and experience to serve all our clients unique electrical needs, with innovative and customized Electrical Solutions.

Owner David Gross is a second generation Electrician and Asheville native. My father started his electrical business the year I was born, specializing in residential new construction. As a kid tagging along, I eventually got my shot at my first job at the age of eight installing outlet and switch face plates. I spent my summers in middle school and high school assisting with new construction work, learning a passion for the intricacies of a proper and efficient electrical installation.

Upon graduation from High School I took a full time position with my fathers crew, and began learning the ins and outs of electrical service and troubleshooting, impressing the more experienced electricians I worked for with my ability to see solutions that some of the older more seasoned electricians could not. Though the years my role in the company started to shift to customer interactions and quoting and preforming electrical service and repair work.

The housing crisis of the 2000's changed the way contractors had to do business to survive, so I began a project to reorient the company away from new construction, into a more sustainable service based model. I took on a contract with Angie's list, and was able to achieve the Angie's List Super Service award three consecutive years.

At this point I set out on a five year plan to learn what I could from the other electrical contractors in WNC. I spent two years working with MB Haynes as a licensed Electrical Journeyman. Working my way up to running an entire dormitory building at a large project for UNCA. All the while I, missed the personal interactions and customer relations of service work. I then joined a large national franchise electrical contractor, as the lead service technician. Helping to get the business established, I spent two years where in this capacity, I found excellent opportunity to hone my business, leadership and customer service skills.

During this time my father passed away due to Covid 19, and the family business was closed after 33 years. This was a major shock, and at this point I realized it was time to move forward, and take the things that I had learned over the years, to the next level, and continue the family legacy of providing a unique trust worthy local electrical service, with a finger on the pulse of what makes my local community so great, and what the people of the mountains want and need from an electrical contractor.

Building on the core values learned through my career, built around safety, customer relations and satisfaction, knowledge and integrity, Down Home Electric was born. While the family business is gone, the lasting impact of the principles and beliefs I learned in my time in the trade drive every thing we do.
